INTERDISCIPLINARY NETWORK OF PAGAN STUDIES (INOPS)
About INOPS
The Interdisciplinary Network of Pagan Studies (INOPS) is an academic network that brings together researchers working on revived local faiths, contemporary Paganisms, and related spiritual, cultural, and social movements.
Our aim is to foster collaboration, knowledge exchange, and innovative scholarly activities across disciplines in order to support and expand research in these evolving fields.
Supported by the Interdisciplinary Thematic Institute (ITI) MAKErS and the UMR 7354 Droit, Religion, Entreprise et Société Research Center, INOPS brings together scholars from a wide range of disciplines, including:
- Sociology
- Anthropology
- Political Science
- Law
- History of Religions
- Cultural Studies
- Folklore Studies
- and more.
We are particularly interested in fostering interdisciplinary dialogue and promoting comparative perspectives on how ancient belief systems are reinterpreted, revived, and integrated into contemporary sociopolitical and religious contexts.
Origins of the Network
INOPS was founded following the international workshop The Echo of Ancestors: The Reemergence and Claims of ‘Ancient’ Religions in Europe, held on 3–4 April 2025 at the University of Strasbourg. The rich intellectual exchange and the diversity of perspectives presented at the workshop revealed the need for a more structured academic platform to continue and deepen the dialogue on revived religious identities and practices across Europe and beyond.
